Brown Motors was founded in 1898 by Ben Brown, grandfather of current owners Steve & Erik Brown, as a harness shop in downtown Charlevoix. Brown sold the newly invented Ford motor cars. |

1924: Brown became a Dodge dealer making the company one of the oldest Dodge dealerships. |

1937: Brown Motors opened a second Dodge dealership in downtown Petoskey. |

Second generation owners, Lewis and Floyd Brown, made many changes in their successive years of ownership. In 1968, the Charlevoix location was sold; Chrysler was added in 1975. |

1976: Brown Motors moved from downtown Petoskey to the Harbor Springs-Petoskey Road. The Ford, Lincoln, Mercury franchise was added in 1986. |

1987: Third generation owners, Steve & Erik Brown, purchased the dealership from their dad when he retired./div> |

1996: Brown Motors Ford Lincoln Mercury moved into a new facility at 2170 US 31 North in Petoskey. |

2009: Brown Motors Chrysler Dodge joined Brown Motors Ford Lincoln Mercury north of Petoskey with a new showroom and combined service and parts operations. Jeep was added in June 2009 and in January 2011 the Mercury brand was retired. |

The fourth generation, Derrick & Micah Brown, joined Brown Motors in 2012. |
